Mitchell Arch

For our anniversary we went to visit Cedar City, Utah.  I wanted to go arch hunting while we were there, so I did an internet search of arches in the vicinity.  I found one that looked intriguing -- Mitchell Arch near Parowan Utah.  We decided to go find it!  It was January, though, and there were a couple feet of snow on the ground.  Still, we followed the directions leading to the road where we could begin our hike, and we started trudging through the snow searching for the arch.  It took a lot of searching, re-reading directions, wading through snow, before we finally found a tiny arch, which I knew wasn't Mitchell Arch, but let me know we were close!  I had read that there was a tiny arch near it, so we searched some more and then we found it!  I looked at my Map-my-Run app and saw that we'd been walking (sometimes in circles) for about 3 miles, but as we stood near the arch, we were almost close enough to see where our car was parked!  In fact, our hike back to our car was only one mile long.  :)  Nevertheless, it was an adventure, and a great way to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary!  If you're in the Parowan area, go on an adventure and find this arch!

this tiny arch let us know we were on the right track

we also found this very tiny opening in the rock while we were exploring

you can see the tiny opening up high above our heads

we found this tiny cave along the way

a map we followed to find it (we found Kane Springs Road on our hike back, it was covered in snow, but would prove to be most helpful in summer months!)
